As water becomes scarce, strategy matters. Discover how effective water management can strengthen vineyard resilience.
Water is fundamental to vine growth, grape development, and overall vineyard health. However, climate change has intensified drought conditions, reduced water availability, and increased competition for this vital resource—particularly in traditionally dry winegrowing regions. Unpredictable weather patterns and prolonged periods of water stress now pose significant challenges to vineyard productivity and sustainability.
This course explores how effective water management strategies can build drought-resilient vineyards while promoting long-term water conservation. Learners will examine practical approaches to irrigation efficiency, soil–water relationships, and water retention techniques that help vineyards withstand harsher climatic conditions and adapt to a changing environment.
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
Explain the role of water in vine growth, grape development, and vineyard health
Analyze the impacts of water scarcity and drought on vineyard systems
Identify efficient and sustainable irrigation strategies for viticulture
Evaluate water management techniques that improve water retention and reduce stress on vines
Apply water-conscious practices to support drought resilience and long-term vineyard sustainability
